I was born in Massachusetts to an American mother and a Canadian father. Our family soon moved to Nova Scotia, Canada, where I spent my early years receiving an education and working within a three-generation civil contracting firm. After completing our contracts and disposing of assets, I transitioned to the construction industry in New England. The next twenty-five years were the most professionally stimulating and financially rewarding of my career. My motivation in writing this book was to share my extensive experiences from 1987, providing a behind-the-scenes look at the inner workings of both the private and public sectors in the multi-billion-dollar transportation and infrastructure sector. This period, marked by a surge in construction and improvements to highways, bridges, subways, and airports, coincided with America’s infrastructure challenges and unprecedented economic growth. It was a boom cycle for the heavy construction industry in the Atlantic States during these transformative years.
